The fire will continue to creep and smolder within the fire area long into the winter. A large number of forest personnel will be tasked with continuing the repair and rehabilitation for the foreseeable future. With over 400 miles of containment line on the landscape, the focus is on repair work efforts to remove hazardous trees and slash from high-use areas, clear culverts and repair dozer and hand line to limit potential resource issues. Repair and rehabilitation work related to the Caldor Fire will continue for quite a while. The fire was reported on Augand burned 221,835 acres. Luther Pass: This mountainous area south of Meyers above the Pioneer Trail is a popular climbing and backcountry skiing zone.Ĭaples Lake Resort and Caples Lake Campground: The lakeside hosts a Forest Service-run campground and the Caples Lake Resort, which has cabins and a two-story lodge.On October 25 at 7:00 a.m., the fire will transition to a local type 3 organization. Tahoe Valley Campground: The campground that also accommodates RVs has more than 400 campsites. Lake Aloha, Lake of the Woods, Ralston Lake and Tamarack Lake: The beauty spots are popular among backpackers and hikers. The historic Echo Chalet, which runs the water taxi into Desolation Wilderness, also appears to have survived. Lower Echo Lake: Berkeley's Echo Lake Camp appears to have survived overnight.
